Contaminated Soil Remediation and Monitoring at site of proposed JPS 190MW plant, Old Harbour Bay
As part of the new 190MW power plant project in Old Harbour Bay, St. Catherine, excavation and treatment of contaminated soils at the proposed site for the new plant had to be conducted before construction began. Excavation of contaminated soils, transportation of contaminated soils to landfarm and landfarm construction (for contaminated soil treatment), were conducted. The volume of contaminated material removed was 17,710 m3. The volume of material trucked in and used to fill the excavated areas on the site was 11,997 m3.CL Environmental conducted ongoing leachate and soil testing for arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury, selenium, silver, Iron, Vanadium, BTEX and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons. CL also conducted ground water quality testing at monitoring wells which were installed. This was done to ensure that no further contaminants were detected. Ground water monitoring is ongoing.
